These are exciting times in Wisconsin Rapids! Because of the ongoing spirit from the community, and investments made by property owners and investors, the Wisconsin Rapids Downtown and Waterfront District has received a renewed interest and has become primed for reinvestment and redevelopment.
Decades of city planning and work done by past administrations, city councils and citizens have gifted us with great visions of our city’s future. In performing a comprehensive review of past plans (1, 2, 3), we’ve repeatedly seen a focus on the downtown and surrounding waterfront area as an area that serves as a tremendous asset, and a continued source of prosperity for our community.. Over the last month, significant progress has been made towards the implementation of these plans through the development of Wisconsin Rapids’ waterfront. With the recent approval by the City of hiring Supermass Studio for the completion of the preliminary design of the riverbank, I am thrilled that we can now move beyond planning, and into implementation.
One of our first events to kickoff idea-sharing and information gathering for the waterfront area will take place this coming Wednesday, June 3, 2015 in an event called “NightSeeing.” In this event, all of the community is invited to join the Rierfront design team for an evening of exploration and discovery of the downtown and Wisconsin River, to set the stage for future nighttime design. The event will begin at City Hall at 8:30PM, and a walking tour will commence at 9:00PM, and will include exploring our City’s beautiful riverfront..
A vibrant and flourishing core is the centerpiece for any city’s health and economic success. Thanks to these past and recent investments, our City stands ready to make the heart of our community truly a centerpiece of which we can all be proud. I look forward to the community’s involvement, enthusiasm and input through this exciting event.
